  • Maclean John Dorward, proprietor of specialist tobacconist GT Coventry of Kirkcaldy, Fife, has died aged 60 after a short illness.

Maclean was a true gentleman who cared greatly for his fellow man and his customers alike and he will be sorely missed by KPC members and those who knew him.  He was also well respected and loved by fellow traders at the end of Kirkcaldy's High Street.  See Fife Free Press article.

GT Coventry was a wonderful specialist tobacconist and bookshop that epitomised the phrase 'old school' and was a joy to visit where Maclean always had time for a blether.  Sadly, 'GT's' will be sold as a retail premises, meaning that Scotland will lose one of its last remaining specialist tobacconists.

On behalf of the KPC I would like to send our sincerest condolences to Maclean's family.

    Sergeant Matron

What an absolute tragedy. Wasn't lucky enough to meet his aquaintance, nor was I ever able to sample the delights of his shop. Condolences

Thanks Hollis.  You would have enjoyed Maclean's company immensely.  A briar & a dram for Maclean in the next bothy.

So sad to hear of the passing of this wonderful and entertaining gentleman. The world is a lesser place, he will be missed greatly.
